Healing is the process of the restoration of health from an unbalanced, diseased, damaged, or revitalized organism.
The profession of nursing has traditionally been concerned with matters of healing, whereas the profession of medicine has usually been concerned with matters of curing or treating. When an organism suffers physical injury or disease, healing entails the restoration of live tissue(s), organs, and the biological system as a whole, as well as the restoration of (normal) function. A medical term that refers to the process by which the cell(s) in the body regenerate and repair in order to reduce the size of a damaged or necrotic area and replace it with new living tissue is regenerative medicine. Replacement can take place in two ways: either by regeneration, in which the necrotic cells are replaced by new cells that form “similar” tissue to that which was originally there, or through repair, in which the injured tissue is replaced with scar tissue that was previously present. In most cases, both methods will be used to cure the organ.
