Memory Verse: “He began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know this man you’re talking about.” Mark 14:71, NIV
You probably have seen it: the employee who’s convinced she’s doing a great job and gets a mediocre performance appraisal, or the student who expects excellence but got a very poor grade. When People overrate their abilities or underrate the challenges ahead of them the result is sure to be abysmal performance.
Jesus had earlier warned Peter that he was going to deny Him (Jesus) in his time of trial (vs. 30), but Peter believing in himself said it would never happen, in the face of death. In the passage we saw Peter’s response to the question of a little girl and a group of people who wanted to know if Peter was a disciple of Jesus after he was arrested. Thrice, Peter denied Christ and went to the extent of swearing to make his interrogators believe his lie.

No Christian can stand in the face of trial who trust himself rather than what God says about him/her. We must accept God’s Word about how feeble we are and seek His help in prayer to overcome trials and temptation in our course of following Jesus.

Insight: To deny the Word of God about oneself is to set oneself up for failure.
Prayer: LORD, please help me to always accept your Word and seek help when necessary.
RBT Passage: Psalms 112-118

Say This Prayer

Dear God,
I come to You in the Name of Jesus. I admit that I am not right with You, and I want to be right with You. I ask You to forgive me of all my sins. The Bible says if I confess with my mouth that “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in my heart that God raised.
