[NBC] Seek Daily Devotional || July 19th 2022 —

At one campus-based BSF, the practice at the beginning of the semester was to give part of the students’ foodstuff to the welfare unit. The plan was to assist any fellowship member in need from the food store during difficult times.
The church in Jerusalem has grown to a large membership, consisting of different tribal groups. Consequently, distribution of food to meet the welfare of the members by the twelve apostles has interfered with their primary responsibility of feeding their soul with God’s Word.

Therefore, some widowed members protested that they were deliberately neglected. To solve this problem, the apostles decided to appoint helpers to attend to their welfare while they concentrate on the ministry of the Word.
Both the spiritual and physical aspects of human life are important. We need wisdom to keep a balance so that one aspect does not suffer at the expense of the other. We should all invest in nourishing our spiritual lives with God’s Word daily and also learn to attend to our bodily care.

Insight: Adequate attention should be given to the spiritual and physical welfare of the church.

Prayer: LORD Jesus, give me and our leaders wisdom to balance welfare with the Word of God.
