TOPIC: Divine Turning Point (I)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Chronicles 26:20-32, 1 Chronicles 27, 1 Corinthians 4, Proverbs 19:13-22

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Genesis 12:1-9 (KJV)

1 Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

4 So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.

6 And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.

7 And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the Lord, who appeared unto him.

8 And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the Lord, and called upon the name of the Lord.

9 And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.

MEMORY VERSE: “And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.” – Genesis 18:10

Temperance, simply put, means self-control. It carries the sense of someone who has mastered his passions and desires as well as the person who effectively controls his sensual cravings. From world history and biblical perspective, the fact has been established that those who conquered their worlds are men and women who have the virtue of self-control. That is, people who have first conquered themselves.

It takes self-control to succeed virtually in every area of life. Many great souls, whose names adorn the biblical hall of fame, were men who made TEMPERANCE their watchword.

Beloved, I believe you know that those who squandered the investment of God upon their lives; those who broke the heart of God, grieved the Holy Spirit and made heaven weep were men who cast the virtue of self-control out of the equation of their lives. As it happened then; so it is now.

Abraham’s life was full of turning point encounters. In Genesis 12, God instructed him to leave his land of nativity, his family and brethren, and go to a land which He would show Him. Abraham obeyed God. God also pronounced seven blessings upon his life.

This marked a turning point in the life of Abraham and the beginning of an extraordinary relationship between him and God, producing transgenerational impacts and blessings. Abraham’s life was without meaning, drection and impact before this encounter with God. So, the first benefit of a turning point encounter is that it will connect you to your divine purpose and give your life meaning, direction and impact! Check the lives of Abraham, Moses, David, Gideon, Peter, Paul, and so on. You will discover this timeless truth.

Turning point is that moment of naked acceptance of truth.

Abraham had other turning point encounters in Genesis 15 and 17. First, God changed his name from Abram to Abraham and Sarai’s name to Sarah. This was also a major turning point in their lives. Through the divine name change, Abraham and Sarah were divinely connected to God; they became His own or His property. They were properly aligned to receive and enjoy the best that God had in store for their destinies. The Bible says that you shall be called by a new name which the mouth of the Lord shall name (Isaiah 62:2b). Name is an omen. Don’t let an evil name hamper your destiny.

The level of grace, greatness and glory that God places in your life is directly proportional to the turning point encounters you have with Him. In Genesis 18 and 21, Abraham had yet other encounters with God. In Genesis, he received and entertained three heavenly visitors. His hospitality and generosity paid off. After their sumptuous meal, the visitors asked, Where is thy wife, Sarah? Then they pronounced, “By this time next year, Sarah will have a child for you.” That was a major turning point in the life of Abraham, who was 100 years old and Sarah, who was 90 years old. Finally, in Genesis 22, God tested Abraham’s faith by asking him to sacrifice lsaac, his covenant child. Abraham obeyed and God’s angel poured transgenerational blessings upon him.

Beloved, I pray that you will have a divine turming point encounter today, in the name of Jesus.
