Aspects of these abilities that are referred to as “charismatic gifts” include the ability to speak in tongues, the ability to increase faith, the ability to heal, the ability to perform miracles, prophecy, the ability to discern spirits, the ability to speak in different kinds of tongues, and the ability to interpret tongues. This list is supplemented with the gifts associated with certain Church positions such as apostles, prophets, teachers, aids (which are associated with the care of the destitute and the sick), and governments (or leadership capacity). Individuals get these gifts as a result of the work of the Holy Spirit, but their goal is to help the entire Church grow and flourish. It is predominantly found in the New Testament, specifically in 1 Corinthians 12, Romans 12, and Ephesians 4. The spiritual talents are also mentioned in 1 Peter 4.
All of the gifts are associated with either obviously normal or supposedly supernatural capabilities attributed to the Holy Spirit’s enabling power, depending on which is more apparent.
