Forgiveness and unforgiveness are extensively covered in the Bible. The parable of the unmerciful servant is probably the most well-known example of unforgiveness. One of the king’s servants in the story owed a debt that was so huge that it could never be repaid. Despite earlier claims to the contrary, that same servant later refuses to pardon the debt of another person. The king is informed of this and decides to revoke his previous forgiveness. Jesus comes to the end of his speech, saying, “God will deal with each of you in this manner unless you sincerely forgive your brother or sister” (Matthew 18:35).
