A miracle is an occurrence that appears to be incomprehensible in terms of natural or scientific rules. When a phenomenon that is defined as miraculous occurs, it is sometimes attributed to the actions of a supernatural being (particularly a god), magic, a miracle worker, a saint, or a religious leader, depending on the religion being studied.
As a slang term, the word miraculous is frequently used to describe any good event that is statistically implausible but does not violate the rules of nature, such as surviving a natural disaster, or just a “great” occurrence, regardless of its statistical likelihood (e.g. “the miracle of childbirth”). Some coincidences may be regarded as miracles in their own right.
