To better understand this concept, the definition of sanctification is best expressed by saying that it is the process of being set apart as a vessel filled with the Holy Spirit of God. Sanctification, which is a notion common to many religions, is particularly prevalent in Judaism and Christianity. When referring to Christian theology, the phrase can be used to describe things that are set apart for particular purposes, but the most common application within the theology is in reference to the transformation brought about by God in a believer. Some Christian denominations believe that only in the afterlife will this process be finished.
